Special Committee Opinion 2018-014

Opinion 2018-14

The Special Committee on Judicial Election Campaign Intervention received a letter addressed to a County Election Commission that challenged the qualifications of a candidate for judicial office.

Canon 5(F) provides that the Special Committee has the responsibility “to issue advisory opinions and to deal expeditiously with allegations of ethical misconduct in campaigns for judicial office.” The Special Committee is of the opinion that any question about the qualification of a candidate is not within the jurisdiction of the Special Committee. The Special Committee declines to act on this matter.
